Top Restaurants in Oxfordshire – My hit list for 2019

Updated: Mar 5, 2021

It’s very easy to end up revisiting the same local pubs and restaurants over and over again and part of the intention behind this blog was to encourage myself and others to experience the full range of fantastic restaurants and pubs we have in Oxfordshire. The wealth of excellent restaurants in Oxfordshire is clearly growing at a rate of knots. It’s actually quite difficult for the average person to keep up!

So to help reduce the overwhelm I’ve been researching in order to narrow down and create a list of Oxfordshire restaurants and pubs that I will visit for the first time this year. I will give full restaurant reviews afterwards so keep an eye on my instagram account @theoxfordshirefoodie to see where I am! I cannot wait to get tasting!

Here are my top restaurants and pubs in Oxfordshire to visit in 2019 (in no particular order):

The Wild Rabbit – Kingham, Oxfordshire

The Wild Rabbit has been on my radar for a while and they were recently voted into the ‘Top 50 Gastro Pubs’ awards; a timely reminder that I need to visit! I love a cosy gastro pub, especially in the winter. My idea of winter heaven is a meal that includes red meat, red wine and ALL the cheese.

The Secret Supper Society – Somerton, Oxfordshire

Pop up restaurants are becoming all the rage in my local area and The Secret Supper Society just happens to be minutes from where I live.  I’ve been drooling over Jules’ foodie pics for a while and her insider idiot proof chef tips on her instagram page are fantastic. Pop up restaurants are a great way to taste fine dining food for a more affordable price, simply because they tend to be BYO (bring your own) booze.

The Falcon – Warmington, Banbury

People tell me so often how great The Falcon is and particularly how lovely the views are. I’m saving this one for when the weather improves and I can appreciate the Banbury countryside a little more.

The Pointer – Brill, Aylesbury

The Pointer is a multi-award-winning country pub just a short walk from the famous windmill on the hill so a great pub to visit when you want to have a walk in the countryside. Their menu is based around seasonal and local produce and they even have their own butchers onsite.

The Oxford Kitchen – Summertown, Oxford

The Oxford Kitchen received their first Michelin star in 2018 and if that isn’t enough of a reason to go there then the critic’s rave reviews of Paul Welburn’s food should be. The food is described as ‘nostalgic british dishes with a modern twist’. My tastebuds are tingling already.

Mollie’s Motel & Diner – Buckland, Oxfordshire

I absolutely love an American diner so am very excited about this one! Sometimes simple comfort food is where it’s at and the Americans are masters at this. Mollie’s Diner is a brand new concept which has been developed by Soho House and aims to bring affordable and stylish food and overnight stay to the masses.

The White Hart of Wytham – Oxford, Oxfordshire

The White Hart has received many awards in the recent past and their foodie photographs speak for themselves and have grabbed my attention many times. A country, gastro pub close to Oxford that I cannot wait to visit. I’m expecting great things!

I’ve struggled to reduce this list down from about 15, not to mention the long list of amazing foodie pubs and restaurants in Oxfordshire that I fully intend to revisit and review on the blog. If you’ve visited any of the above and have any tips or recommendations on the menu then please do let me know!

I’d love to hear of any others I should be trying so get in touch if you have any Oxfordshire foodie recommendations!

I look forward to doing lots of eating and reporting back…all in the name of research of course.

Love & food,

The Oxfordshire foodie
